Exercising is not only great for your health but can be an extremely fun and relaxing activity.  Although, as a plus size woman you may feel uncomfortable participating in physical activities it is very important that you do.  Not only will your muscles and bones reap the benefits, you will have an increase in energy levels and lower blood pressure, relieving you of stress and increasing your overall well being. 

1.   Don’t do the same exercises every day.  Vary your workouts to keep yourself from getting bored.  By doing the same exercises each day your body will be accustomed to the workout and will not be challenged.  Range your workouts from something as simple as a power walk to an intense cardio to weight lifting. 

2.   Stay consistent and workout three to four times a week for no less than twenty minutes each time.  The more workout sessions that you have the greater the results. 

3.   You don’t want to over work your body.  Many people think that working out excessively will get you better results.  The truth is working out too much will give you the same results as not working out at all.  Your energy level will drop, you’re appetite will decrease causing fatigue.  You can tear and pull a ligament when working out excessively because your muscles will become weak.  You can get much out of a 30-45 minute workout.

4.   Wear the proper attire.  When picking out your workout outfit choose plus size women’s clothing that is going to keep you supported, comfortable, and make you look and feel great.  Flexibility, weight, and the confidence in bring a plus size women, is the most important factors in workout clothing.

5.   Set goals and have fun! If you are not having fun you are not going to decrease stress but add to it, defeating the purpose of working out.  If you set goals for yourself you will feel accomplished and working out will turn into a motivating, enjoyable activity.  Increase the time you spend on that treadmill, add heavier weights, or do more repetitions.  You will end up feeling great and loving to workout.

Bike riding is a great way to exercise and stay healthy.  If you do not have the appropriate bike shorts your workout will be a pain.  Baggy bike shorts can get stuck as you are riding. You should never wear shorts that are going to ride up into areas that will make you feel and look uncomfortable. If you are not able to move in your bike shorts then those are not the correct shorts to be wearing.  If your shorts are rubbing against your skin that probably means they are too tight and will give you a rash.  When your shorts are too tight they will rub against your skin not allowing them to breathe which will cause major skin irritation.  You want to make sure that you can move your legs up and down with no hesitation, that’s how you know your plus size bike short's  are perfect for a rigorous bike ride.

Also, when bike riding make sure to have a drink handy at all times. If you are going on a short bike ride, drinking water is fine but if your bike ride is going to be a long intense one, a sports drink would be best because they contain electrolytes that will give you body more power.  You should never over drink, the proper amount of liquid your body should consume while cycling depends on your bodies weight and sweat rate.  You are supposed to drink at the same rate as you sweat throughout your ride.

Five middle schools in New York City are trying out a new fitness program for their students. Four hours a week, 25 students do yoga and other fitness activities after school, seeing if incorporating the Nintendo Wii into a fitness program is viable. Nintendo is backing this trial, donating all of the necessary equipment. If the program is a success, it can spread state-wide, with the help of private funding.
